Why "St. Cuthbert's Island"?

Saint Cuthbert was a Celtic monk who lived in the 7th century.
He received visitors at his monastery in Northumbria and was even appointed a bishop, but he yearned for the life of an ascetic. While living at the monastery on the island of Lindisfarne, he sought to spend time with the Lord whenever possible. Early on, he practiced solitude on a small island that was linked to Lindisfarne by a land bridge when the tide was low. This tiny island, known as Saint Cuthbert’s Island, was a training ground of sorts—a place to grow in faith and in love for God.

I chose to name my blog after this island for two reasons:
1) I hope that it will be a place where I can spend time alone with God, growing in my love for Him.
2) Perhaps, when the tide is low, others may find their way to this tiny island
and, by God’s grace, be blessed by what they find there.

Blogging

I love this blogging business. Although I'm a relative latecomer, I am fascinated by the sense of community that can be created by sharing one's thoughts and having others read and react.

There is so much sin going on via the Internet, and the chat rooms and blogs are full of junk. But as I read the blogs of family and friends, I am so thankful for the good stuff that is being generated online, too.

May God use all who read this to help redeem the Internet for His glory. May you be encouraged and warmed. May you know you are loved. What a neat medium!

Clay,
It has been crazy that in just the two weeks that I've had my blog, nearly 500 visits have taken place and people from India, Africa, England, Canada, Brazil, America, etc. have read my stuff. Insane, yet, very powerful. To God be the glory.

Cool deal, Michael. The Internet is a powerful means of reaching people all over the world. I recently read about the idea of churches supporting Internet missionaries--people who are trained theologically and in Bible & apologetics who visit Blogs, chatrooms, etc. in order to engage people with the truth of the Gospel. Sounds like a great idea. Is this not "Going into all the world"?
